The schedule for the 2012 London Olympic Games has been released this week. This includes full schedule for all of the events with ticket pricing and timing of the events which are due to take place in the summer of 2012.
The Badminton event will take place at The Wembley Arena, North West London with the nearest rail / tube stations being Wembley Park, Wembley Stadium and Wembley Central.
The Preliminary rounds “kick” off on July 28th starting at 8:30am running right through to 11:00 pm, well thats the schedule anyway, sounds like a good days Badders to me! The Prelim’s run through to the 31st July. Each day of Badminton is split up into 3 sessions, Morning, Afternoon and Evening, each of which you will need to buy a separate ticket for if you wish to attend the whole day. The pricing structure is split into 4 classes A for the best seats going down B, C and finally D. Prices start at £20 to £75 per session for the early days of competition, this in itself seems reasonable, however if you want half decent seats you will have to be prepared to shell out.
The round of 16 then commences on the 1st August, again split up into 3 sessions per day. The 1/4 finals and Semi Finals are then held on the 2nd and 3rd of August. Ticket prices for the latter stages of competition consequently rise, starting at £30 and rising to a top price of £95 for prime seats, with B and C grade seats being £65 and £45 respectively.
The Gold medal matches is where things start to get expensive, with A grade seats being £150 and D class £45, B and C class are £95 and £65. These gold medal events will take place on the 4th and 5th of August.
Are these prices too expensive ? and have the committee made it accessible to everyone ? If you want to get the most badminton for your £ the Prelim’ sessions are the ones to go for, however the quality of games may not be “Top Class”.
Overall, I think they have done an “OK” job with prices, I wouldn’t complain being able to watch an Olympic Final for £45, that seems good value. However, the Olympics probably only come to your country once, or maybe twice in your lifetime so maybe it is worth paying £80, £90, £100+ for a ticket ?
